Class 4 came to school today with their funny faces on for Red Nose Day!
Some of class 4 took part in a basketball competition at Park View school in Chester-le-Street. We didn't win but all had great fun and found the pace of the game very fast. Mr Jim McManus came into school this week to talk to class 4 about the East Hetton pit. He talked about the history of the pit in the village and about the wildlife that now exists on the reclaimed pit land. We then went for a walk to see the site ourselves and noticed some of the problems that spoil this area such as litter, fly tipping and damage to gates and fencing. Back in the classroom we discussed these problems then suggested what we would like to happen to this land and possible solutions for the problems. Jim also brought along some old tools from the pit and explained how they were used. We then had a chance to handle the tools and were surprised by how heavy some of them were. All the children were given a questionnaire to find out your views on the site - please return this. As part of the consultation with the community process there is a drop in session at the school on Wednesday 11th March between 2.00pm and 4.00pm. Some of class 4 made fabulous book boxes that contain props and items associated with their favourite book. The boxes are on the window sills in the corridor for everyone to enjoy. |
